Gedling and Sherwood Cricket Club

Another season is over and on the whole it has been very successful both on and off the pitch. If you had asked me at this time last year if l would be happy to finish 4th in our first season in Division A I would have been delighted to say YES but after the start we made and winning nearly all our matches up to the halfway stage of the season, I feel a little bit disappointed that we tailed off in the 2nd half of the Season, This does show that we do need strength in depth and so it is vital that we attract more players to the club particularly as we are starting a 3rd TPM this coming Season.

All of our teams have performed well over the season and there is a possibility that the 2nd Team may get promoted which if it happens can only be good for the club in bringing the 1st and 2nd teams closer together, Gerry has again done an excellent job with the 1st Team and although he is standing down as Captain next season l am sure he will be doing his utmost to keep his players in the team. Our overseas player Samrat has fitted in quite well and his runs have certainly made a big difference to us, and we thank Simon for all the time he put in to organise all Sami's arrangements. Steve (Beefy) has again done well to keep putting out a team every week and Glen and Carl have made progress with the Sunday Team and by including some of the juniors the future looks good. Our Youth Academy is coming along nicely and thanks to Alex and his helpers for all their work with the Juniors.

A big big thank you to all our sponsors because with out them we would [really struggle to compete with other clubs. Mike Browne our President kindly donated the pitch covers, Beechdale Construction were again a major sponsor particularly with their work on the nets, rebuilding the sight screens and landscaping etc and many of you have arranged match ball sponsors which has bought in a good amount. Thanks to John Gell and Simon Smith for the Banks sponsorship.

Once again ALL of your committee have worked tremendously hard in the running of your club and there has also been a lot of work done by the WAGS so to each and everyone of you a SPEClAL thank you from me because it has been a pleasure to work with you all. Again Geoff has done a great job on the wickets and we must thank him for all the time and effort he puts in down the ground to ensure that we have one of the best wickets in Notts. John Gell has again done a great job in keeping us on the right financial footing but with the ever increasing costs of the ground rent and upkeep we will need another massive effort next season and so your support for all our fund raising activities lS A MUST. Pete Guest has again done us proud by organising loads of evening matches and the revenue he has generated for this club has been a massive help- thanks Pete. Did you attend the Presentation Evening, if not you missed a brilliant night out. Carl Blake went to great lengths organise evening, Jaz and Kate took the day off to set up the room and didn't it look good. A good buffet, quiz and presentation along with the disco and photographer really set us up and with the bar and raffe doing well we must give a huge thank you to Carl and the girls for making this such a special night. Linda and her helpers have again served up the best teas in the league which is another reason we are becoming well known.

Thanks to Mike Turner and Pete Macmillan for their umpiring work - it really is appreciate. There are so many people to thank so if l have missed anyone out please accept my apologies because l really do value the work that everyone puts into this club, There is another big season ahead of us in 2009 and we cannot afford to relax and so we need to continue going forward to hopefully another very successful year.
